Hello, Livejournal

Guess what? It’s time for the “What I’ve been doing for the past 3 months” update post!

Since I don’t really remember most of it, I’ll give you the lazy list version.

Part 1: How I wasted my extended winter vacation

For a month after getting back from Dartmouth I did nothing. Really. Nothing at all. I think there was about a 2 week period that I didn’t leave my house at all. It was bad. I looked for work or an internship but since I started looking for late it was pretty much hopeless, unless I wanted to work at the mall.

Part 1.5: How I wasted my extended winter vacation in Newark

So about after a month of doing nothing things were getting pretty bad and I still hadn’t heard back from any of the internships I had applied for. I was even afraid I wouldn’t be able to get a job at the mall and that I would be stuck in the house for another 2 month. But then, I got a call from a Dartmouth alum at NJPAC who set up an interview for me with the arts education department. I was so happy at that point that I didn’t care what the job actually was, I just wanted to get out of the house, even if meant commuting to Newark everyday. I think I was the only person who applied for this internship since and they said they really needed someone so they hired me pretty fast. And of course right after I signed the contract I got like 3 other offers from other places I had applied for.

NJPAC, even though it’s a performing arts center, apparently has ass loads of money to waste. They hired me and PAID me to do pretty much nothing 4 days a week. I sat at a computer and browsed facebook and LJ for 6 hours a day. Of course there was the expected internship bitch work like making copies and mailing stuff, which was boring but what I expected. I had maybe like 2 hours of work to do out of the 6 hours each day and they were like “Oh no! I hope you’re not overwhelmed! Tell us if this is too much for you, ok?) At least I got experience making phone calls.

Part 2: Good Times

Let’s start all the way at the beginning with New Years. It was a disaster. Nah just kidding I had fun. I set up a pong table in my basement. It was sweet. But I hope certain people learned their lesson about trying to act cool by drinking half a bottle of vodka. Not cool. But I still <3 you guys anyway.

I hung out at Rutgers a couple of times which was really fun. Thanks for letting me crash in your room, Lauren. Going to that restaurant in New York and getting pretty much free food was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. It’s great that you have such awesome friends. You better visit me this spring/summer!!

Skipping ahead to today, (because outside of internship, TV, internship, Rutgers, and TV there really was nothing else that happened in the past 2 months) I went to the city with my mom and got my hair done at a fancy salon as a birthday gift. Now, for the first time in like 7 in years, I’m no longer a blonde. GASP. That’s right, my hair is brown. I hope I don’t look too Jewish like this. >_<

After spending lots of money shopping in the village, we went to dinner at Nobu, which was absofuckinglutely incredible. I had mint chocolate chip mochi. Holycrapamazing.

Moving on…

Part 3: Not So Good Times

I got my bottom wisdom teeth out. It wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Fortunately, I recovered pretty quickly. I also had 2 cavities filled. Hooray for dental work.

About a month ago my cat had a cold so we took her to the vet. They said she was allergic to plastic and gave her a prednisone shot. She starting getting better but then in a few days started getting much worse again. We weren’t sure what was wrong with her and we didn’t think she was going to make it, but since we didn’t know what was wrong we didn’t want to put her to sleep. So we transferred her from the local vet to a pet hospital where they put in a feeding tube since she wasn’t eating. Fortunately she started improving after that. It turns out she probably only had a virus (which the shot made worse) and couldn’t fight it off when she wasn’t eating. She’s doing pretty well now and is at home but she still has the feeding tube and won’t eat. My parents have to puree cat food and feed her through the tube 4 times a day. I’m really glad we were able to bring her home. I honestly didn’t think she would make it since she’s old. I don’t know if she’ll really ever make a full recovery but I hope she stays well for a long time.

Here is a Preemptive ‘not a good time’—I have to work this weekend. The internship was dealing with this audition for the NJPAC kids programs and it’s Saturday and Sunday all day. I have to be in Newark by 8:00 tomorrow and I’ll be there until like 8:00PM. Fuck. Then Sunday I’ll be there till like 7:00 and then I’m leaving straight to go back to Dartmouth (but I think I’m stopping for the night on the way so I won’t be back until Monday.) And I still need to pack. Fuck.

Part 4: Things that made my wasted extended winter break a little more interesting

TV. I watched more of it in these 3 months than I think I have in my whole life. My life consisted of waiting for the next episode of House (Fuck you, American idol, by the way) and watching reruns of the Daily Show.

Youtube. I hate youtube. But, in cases of extreme boredom, sometimes it is the only choice.

The gym. I went to the JCC/YMCA gym a few times a week. Yes, the Jews and Christians have joined together to gather what’s left of the white people in Edison. It’s a community center owned half by JCC, half by YMCA, and used only by Indians. I love it.

Nodame Cantabile. I don’t usually care for Jdramas, but Nodame is the funniest thing I have seen ever. It’s brilliant. I am somehow going to make everyone who I know who has ever been involved with either music or Japanese watch this. If I can find subs for it, we are watching this in DJS for spring term.

Tea. I drank way too much of it, but I love it. I <3 玄米茶more than is probably healthy.

平原綾香. My new music obsession. I can’t believe I haven’t heard her until recently. She has such an amazing voice and her songs are beautiful. And thanks to the internet, I now have her full discography. Also, Kokia, who I’ve loved forever and recently released an amazing album making me love her even more. And Yui wins the constantly awesome music award.

Part 5: Plans for Spring Term

Continue going to the gym. Seriously, I’m going to do it.

I don’t think I’m doing drill this term. There is no reason for me to wake up that early and feel like crap the entire day. I need to concentrate this term and not fail my econ courses.

Figure out what I want to do with my life. Right.

I am going to practice for my voice lessons. Really, I’m going to do it this term.

Join a club/activity/organization that relates to what I want to do with my life. Unfortunately, this is dependent on my ever figuring that out.

Work hard but still have fun. I want to be really serious with studying this term, but I still want to find time to enjoy it. I’ve been ok with balancing this in the past so hopefully I can find time for everything again this term.

Part 6: Goodnight.

That was long. I’m going to sleep so I can wake up at some ungodly hour of the morning tomorrow to go to Newark and deal with obnoxious 12 year old theater kids and their even more obnoxious parents.

To the Dartmouth people who don’t read this: I miss you, see you soon. To the NJ people who might read this: I’ll miss you, you better visit me!

I had a very awkward encounter with Ishida-sensei as she was walking her dog across the green. Why for the love of god is she walking her dog on campus at 6:30 at night on a Saturday. And why did I have to be walking in the same direction, about 10 feet behind her, for like 5 minutes without realizing she was there, speaking very loudly and very offensively to Shelley. Oh god the awkwardness it burns.

To the person in the room next to mine: SHUT YOUR FUCKING ALARM CLOCK OFF.

Every morning at 7. It beeps for at least 20 minutes. It might not wake her up but it wakes me up. It is right next to my wall annd the walls here are thin. I'm pretty sure she is in the room but just isn't waking up to the damn alarm.

And now. At 1:14am. It has going off for almost 20 minutes. Why do they make alarm clocks that beep for a half hour? Most shut off at a certain point but if you don't wake up after 5 minutes of beeping you aren't going to get up.

I am going to have to bitch at this kid. This is too much.

EDIT: After 50 minutes of listening to the damn thing beep I knocked on the door (it took a few tries to get anyone to answer) and the girl who had apparently been sleeping with the lights on finally woke up and shut her alarm clock off. She said "oh.. I've been really tired lately." Well yea you're up all night listening to music and lauging really loudly no wonder you're tired. Btw, the alarm clock actually is right up against the wall that my bed is on.

tommorow: japanese skit (still not finalized on my topic...)

friday: japanese 10 paper due (unless I get an extension)

sunday: econ and jpn 3 finals

moday: go home

Holy crap this term is almost over. It just hit me that finals are next weekend and my freshman year is done.

And really really soon I'll be enjoying a very awkward, but I'm sure awesome, summer in Japan.

I'll be back in Edison soon so those of you who are home, know that we are going to Menlo because I haven't been to a mall in 5 months.

O_O

I forgot how much being sick sucks. I managed to put it off for fall and winter term but it finally caught up to me. I'm going to get checked out tommorow and hopefully I don't have whooping cough and I'll be able to get whatever random shots Dartmouth thinks I need to leave the country.

Since the last time I was sick was last year, the strange, delerious, "holy crap I'm sick" feeling is making me kind of homesick. I remember all the times in high school I took days off and slept all day and messed around on my computer. Which oddly enough is actually what I do almost every weekend anyway is college.

Room Draw went well. I'm living in a nice 3 room tripple with 2 friends and I'm in the single and their in the double. It has a nice sized common room even though its a strange curved shape. It's actually the room right below the room I'm in this year.

The gleek party wasn't as ragey as I thought it was going to be, but I still got back really late because I went to Amarna to play Guitar Hero (randomess). Probably wasn't a good idea but I managed to get a lot of sleep today anyway...

The weekend was pretty meh but the next few weeks should be good...

The ipod is fixed! I spent like 2 hours at computer services before they figured out how to fix it, but whatever, I have my ipod back.

I feel kind of blah today and I'm coughing a lot (maybe its just paranoia because I heard there's been an outbreak of whooping cough here). Most likely I just need to sleep more and I'll feel better. But I've been wasting a lot of time and I need to catch up on some work.

Tommorow is EW room draw but it's during the gleek concert so I have to get a proxy to choose my room for me. Considering I have no idea what'll be left by the time it gets to my room number I'll probably end up with a crappy room. It's a real pain in the ass. They picked the worst possible time for the concert...

My ipod is being an asshat.

It randomly decided to get all fucked up and not let itunes know that it's plugged in so I can't update it. I went to the ipod help website but I can't seem to get it to work. I don't know if the computer help center here can fix this sort of stuff. I wonder if there are any mac stores near Hanover...
